Gardhams' Volunteers
However,
as I am so often told by the volunteers, the school gives a great deal
to them: the satisfaction of seeing the
children they help progressing through the year, the obvious delight
of the children when they see them arriving in the class room, the
happy atmosphere that pervades throughout school, it all makes, they
say a 'job'
worth doing. |
I
can't think of anything I would rather do than work here with reception ...
I love every minute of it - if I could give it more time I would. The children
are lovely, if I can do it at my age ... anyone can. I
find the children I help very pleasant and helpful. They always try
their best and
are an excellent ambassadors for the school The
school has a very happy atmosphere fostered from the head- teacher
down to all the supportive staff. And, at the same time well ordered. Freda
Gardham school has a very special atmosphere; stand in a corridor and
watch cheerful children everywhere. They know where they are going
and what they are meant to be doing without lots of ordering about,
but watched over by grown ups: teachers and helpers who are really
concerned with their pupils. Then you feel you have been involved and
maybe have been of some help. I
enjoy working with the children and seeing their progress throughout
the year. I
was struck immediately by the friendly and happy atmosphere in the
school. Reading
method and times tables no longer a bind when transformed by the 1
to 1 contact with fresh young lives - 2 hours of refreshment for me. |
I'm
impressed how supportive and friendly the children are to each other,
also, how polite and respectful they are towards the teachers and other
adults within the school. I am happy to feel
that I support children who need my help and that I support my local
school in a way that will make a difference. It gives me immense
satisfaction seeing the improvement in the reading of the children
I work with regularly. Helping the children
with their reading is a two way thing: they benefit from my help and
I benefit from gaining the satisfaction of doing a worthwhile 'job. I have been a volunteer
at Freda Gardham School now for just over a year, and I can honestly
say it is extremely worthwhile. At all levels Rye's
children have very diverse needs and we are very lucky as a town having
Freda Gardham school giving our young people their very best shot -
day in day out. |
