I used to be a student at Freda Gardham. I have many many happy memories there and in my day it was a fantastic school to be in. Friendly, the teachers were great, lots of fun school trips. I hear that the school is closing down next year and i am absolutely blow over about it. Personally i think it's a very big shame. The school it's self and the grounds were very dear to me, and i regret that i have not had the chance to return there. I wish everyone the best of luck and wish to take this time to thank everyone with all my heart for a wonderful education there, I learnt a lot more than what was taught in the classrooms. It is also a shame i don't have any or many pictures of the school as memories, unfortunatly, do fade. Best of luck for the future!

School-Colle ge?: Favourite Book?: Favourite Group?: Favourite Sport?: Pets?: Sam, a blonde labrador Date?: 24th February 2008 Comments: Hello, I just wanted to sign the guest book and say how sad I am to hear that the school is closing. It is a lovely school and I had some brilliant times there. The teachers were great. When I went there Mr Lelasher was the head teacher and some of my teachers included: Mrs Lockyer, Mrs Elms, Mr Cole, Miss Bell, Miss Braeban, Mrs Lovell... Mr Cole was very cool with his quirky sense of humour and awesome music lessons hehe.
I often think back to great times there... like when this amazing puppet show with an incredible set came to visit and perform for us! Wo-ow. That was wicked. The christmas dinners :D Playing games on the last day of term (and wearing my spiderman pyjamas haha). Dropping eggs from the roof in special packaging to keep them protected in Mr Cole's class. (Still have the photos!) The garden. The playing fields, the air-raid shelters. Assembly and the fantastic music that played as we walked in! Singing lots of great songs in assembly and really enjoying singing carols at Christmas!! And so much more but I'm sure I'd bore you if I went on.
It was lovely and it's such a shame it's closing down. Thank you all my teachers and friends from Freda Gardham for the great times there :)
After FG I went to Thomas Peacocke, Brockhill Park, Canterbury College and recently gained a degree in music from Canterbury Christchurch University.
I worked as a junior/trainee graphic designer for a while, now I am an illustrator and writer, specialising in children's stories (as well as other part-time work in a geeky shop). Last year I had some illustrations published in Japan and a story published in an anthology. Hoping to get my books/illustrations published in England soon! I'm also keen on acting which I'd like to take professionally. I played in a band for a while which was fun, we even played on Capital Fm!
Sorry, I'm waffling on. One more thing I'd like to mention... some of my friends included: Alexander Cathro, Luke Holmens, Elaine Robus, Zoe Humm, Hannah Ball, Claire Gasson, Lisa Nielson, Matthew, Jai Gudgeon, Tarrant, Felicity, Alicia, Nicola Greenfields, Katy Lamb, Vanessa Rae... (sorry for missing people out.. in a bit of a hurry!)
Yes anyway, I'd better stop filling up the whole guest book.
I'd love to hear from you! |

I was there when Mr Lelasher, Mrs Braeban and others were there. Mr Moses was a good man and Mr Cole was a brilliant sports teacher. Gutted to hear its going as I was born and Bred in Rye and spent loads of great time at the school both in term and out. Seems wrong that local council would make such a stupid decision, i dont know the full story but from my own experience of council and politics in this country Im sure its the wrong decision. |

I still have the class photos from each of these years and have such fond memories.
As a parent myself now I can only wish that my daughter will go to a Primary School where she will have as much fun as I did.

I'm sorry to hear that the place will be closing down. Freda Gardham was the first school I attended when I arrived in England from India and it was the place where I was taught the English language. It remains very special to me.
I still remember many of my first teachers: Miss Diamond with her guitar; Mr Moses poetry; Mr Collins reading The Witches by Roald Dahl; Miss Braeban with her poodle and formidable reputation; Miss Baldwin's music lessons and Mr Le Lacher's run around the playground.
Freda Gardham gave me a safe space to grow up and adjust to life in England and to British culture. The school was my first step towards becoming a modern British Asian. It will always have a special place in my heart. |

Your Name?: Ben Sinclair Such a shame that the school is being closed. Some great teachers back then, as i'm sure there are now, including Mr Cole, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Lovell. All of which made going to school as enjoyable as it could be. I still have many great memories relating to my time there including a great trip to the Forrest of Dean, Mr Cole once ordering the entire class to remove their shoes as someone had reported a lost/stolen left sock!! (April Fools) and the great class projects including dressing up as pieces of fruit (i think to demonstrate to principle of decay?) and learning WWII songs. Great school. Best of luck at the new site. |

Your Name?: Amanda I'm another ex-Freda Gardham (and Thomas Peacocke) student, just wanted to say that it is a terrible shame for Freda Gardham to be closing and moving to a much smaller site (which floods, bring your arm bands kiddies!) when their facilities at the moment are top notch! Freda Gardham is a wonderful school with such a friendly atmosphere, and possibly the most commited hard working staff in the whole of Sussex! I have many happy memories of my time there as I'm sure everyone else that has ever worked or studied there will have. I hope the new school lives up to th old standards! |
