Father Christmas in Green

Christmas in Ireland lasts from Christmas Eve to the feast of the Epiphany on January 6, which is referred to as Little Christmas.

Lighted candles are placed in windows on Christmas Eve, as a guide to Joseph and Mary that they will find shelter within. The candles are usually red in colour, and decorated with sprigs of holly. In the evening, all the family tucks into a large Christmas Eve dinner. After  dinner is finished, the table is re-set with caraway-raisin bread, and milk as a sign of welcome to the Holy Family

Before going to bed, children hang up a stocking for Father Christmas to fill with presents. - In Ireland, Santa Clause wears a suit of green, not red as he normally does.

Christmas morning is devoted to church. After church, families sit down to a dinner of roast goose, potatoes and brussel sprout, followed by a flaming Christmas pudding.

On Saint Stephen's Day - December 26, boys get together in a parade called the Wren Boys Procession: St. Stephen, while in hiding, was supposedly found when a wren betrayed his presence, so young boys parade with a wren on a stick - fake wren -, singing songs and asking for treats. Also, as in England, pantomimes and puppet shows are   very common on Boxing day
