Opal Class - Year 3 - 4

The children of Year 3 and 4 {Opal and Ruby} started their topic of WW 2 with a wonderful role-play day presented by Ian Roberts.
The children began their day by filling in their evacuee identification labels and learning how they must remember their gas masks for their train ride into the country.
After meeting the adults they were going to live with, they played with toys and games of that era, learnt how to move quickly to their Andersen shelter, listen to and saw how a siren works, learnt about the A. R. P wardens and black out and how the fire fighting equipment of the time worked. - All had a wonderful time.
The children are now looking at the posters of that time, designing their own and researching much more about the war.

These two boys are playing bagatelle - a game which was very been popular with children in the 1940s.

An evacuee, wearing her name tag and carrying her gas mask, waiting to be selected by an adult for placement in their home.

Please somebody, select us and take us home with you, we really, really, are good boys.

When the siren sounds, the children have to leave what ever they are doing -----

Someone has taken pity on this lad and taken him in.

--and continue their lesson in the Anderson shelter until the all clear is sounded
